Jayalalitha relatives re-performed her Last Rites
Though AIADMK party and Sashikala performed late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s last rites,Jayalalithaa’s relatives rejected AIADMK tradition and re-performed her last rites as per Hindu customs. They claimed that her soul would not attain ‘moksha’ as she was buried instead of being cremated. On Tuesday, her relatives once again performed her last rites at Paschima Vahini on the banks of Cauvery River in the holy town of Srirangapatna. They expressed their rejection towards AIADMK party decision about her last rites and said that her soul would not attain ‘moksha’ as she being Brahmin, she was buried instead of being cremated without following strict Hindu customs.
Chief priest Ranganath Iyengar performed the last rites, by creating a statue of her marking to be her exact replica. He also said, some rituals will be observed for five days to appease her soul. Jayalalithaa’s step-brother Varadaraju, did the rituals for Jayalalitha. He made comments that her party AIADMK should have honoured her beliefs as she is not an atheist. He added that if she is an atheist, she would not have visited temples, participated in Hindu festivals nor observed Hindu traditions. So he questioned AIADMK party that how they took the decision to bury her and why did they keep her relatives away from her last rites.
As many doubts were raised about the Jayalalithaa’s ritual not being performed as per Hindu rites, her relatives said that they re-performed her last rites
